National Human Rights Commission

  • The National Human Rights Commission was constituted on 12 October 1993 under the Protection of Human Rights Act-1993.
  • The National Human Rights Commission is an autonomous and statutory body formed under an Acı passed in Parliament The Act was amended in 2006.
  • Every year December 10 is celebrated as International Human Rights Day.
  • On 10 December 1948, the United Nations General Assembly declared human rights.
  • This Commission is the watchdog of human rights in the country - that is, the protection of the rights related to life, liberty, equality and personal dignity created by the Constitution in uncertain or international treaties and imposed by the courts in India.
  • The objective of the formation of the Human Rights Commission is to develop such institutional arrangements that protect human rights independent of the Government, create awareness about it and try to address the issues related to it.

  • The National Human Rights Commission is a multi- member body. It consists of a Chairman and four full. time and four other ex-officio members. Thus there are a total of 9 members including the Chairman.
